For thousands of years, Cape Town was inhabited by the Strandloper (ancestors of Kalahari Bushmen). Cape Town’s European history began in 1652, when Jan van Riebeeck established a trading post there on behalf of the VOC (Dutch East Indies Company). The first European settlers were mainly Dutch, with some French Huguenots that had to flee from religious persecution in their home country. The first settlers soon explored the adjacent hinterland and founded the cities of Stellenbosh and Paarl in today’s Cape Winelands. The Voortrekkers (Pioneers of European descent) started from here to explore and settle the rest of South Africa.

The towns of Oudtshoorn and De Rust are in the Klein Karoo between the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world. The world’s biggest bird is just one of the many attractions in this area of exceptional contrasts and natural beauty.The region is home to the spectacular Cango Caves, Africa’s largest show cave system; an ecological hotspot where three distinct plant biomes (succulent karoo, cape thicket and fynbos) converge; and the Swartberg mountain range, which is part of the Cape Floral World Heritage Site.
Johannesburg is the economic hub of South Africa, and increasingly for the rest of Africa. Although estimates vary, about 10% of sub-Saharan Africa’s GDP is generated in Johannesburg. Yet the city’s wealth is unequally distributed among its inhabitants causing the city to have, within its own borders, living conditions varying from first world standards to third world conditions. The contrast between rich and poor has led to one of the highest crime rates in the world. The more affluent tend to live in houses with a high level of security by western standards, whilst the less affluent live in less desirable housing conditions.

Day 3: CAPE TOWN
The day is free. OR take an optional Wineland Tour of the Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch winelands, a perfect for wine lovers. OR take an optional tour to visit Robben Island, used as a prison for nearly 400yrs, where the world’s most famous prisoner Nelson Mandela was kept for 27yrs.Overnight in Cape Town
Day 4:CAPE TOWN - OUDTSHOORN
Today, proceed to Oudtshoorn, renowned as the feather capital of the world. Visit an Ostrich Farm for some unique experiences including Ostrich racing and also riding one, continue to Cango Caves one of the world’s greatest limestone formation, next visit Cango Wildlife Ranch famous for its Cheetah Conservation programme. Day 5 : OUDTSHOORN - KNYSNA
Your odyssey down the beautiful Garden Route begins! Enjoy an optional steam train journey on the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe. In the evening, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Knysna Lagoon. Overnight in Knysna.
Day 6 : KNYSNA - GEORGE – JOHANNESBURG
Today, you transfer to George airport for your flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival enjoy a panoramic city tour. View from the 50th floor of the Carlton Centre, Supreme Court and the museum Africa where the history and cultures of South Africa are well represented. Overnight in Johannesburg
Day 7 : JOHANNESBURG - SUN CITY
Today, you will transfer to Sun City, enroute visit Gold Reef City, built to replicate an old mining town. Walk through the original homes of the miners and mine bosses, watch a gold bar being poured and then descend into the depths of a real gold mine. Continue to Sun City, a massive entertainment and hotel complex. Overnight in Sun City
Day 8 : SUN CITY
The day is free to enjoy the entertainment complex resort of Sun City. Visit the Valley of Waves and Waterworld, the rumbling Bridge of Time and the Palace of the Lost City. You also have the option of visiting the Pilanesberg Game Reserve for a jungle safari.Overnight in Sun City
Day 9 : DEPART SUN CITY - JOHANNESBURG
Today, the morning is free for last minute shopping, later you will be transferred to the Johannesburg airport for your flight back home.
